formerly the Cisco, GA, post office

Yes, that's right. The very small building pictured was once - not too long ago - the Cisco, GA, post office. It was moved to make way for the newer structure which is a modular building. It's about twice as large as this old building, but it's still quite small. You'll find all sorts of interesting things when you venture off the main highways.

Thanks for sharing this photo. I am familiar with this post office. It was a barber shop before it was renovated to serve as a post office after the post mistress passed away and her store had to be closed. My uncle, the late Jack Clayton, set aside the property and moved the little building on the site in order to keep a post office in Cisco. Sadly the U.S. Postal Service is now reviewing it with others in the area for closure.

It all comes down to the "bottom line" with large corporations like the USPS. It's good that people can keep the history of little community postal facilities alive. Maybe the Cisco station can be repurposed into a barber shop to complete the cycle.
